AI visibility for your world

AI visibility means whether tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers actually name your business when someone asks for the best option in your space. It works differently in every industry, because buyers in every industry ask in their own way.

A B2B software buyer types "best CRM for a 50-person sales team" and wants a shortlist. A patient types "dentist near me who takes Delta Dental and is good with nervous people" and wants someone they can trust today. An ecommerce shopper asks for the best product under a budget. Same idea, completely different prompts, and completely different signals the engine leans on to pick a winner.

That is why these pages are split by industry rather than one generic guide. Find your field below, or run the free check and let it work your category out from your own site.

The pattern

What actually changes between fields

The engines are the same everywhere. What changes is which sources they trust to answer your kind of question, and that decides where the work has to happen.

Local and service businesses

Assistants lean hard on Google Business Profiles, review sites and community threads. A polished website with no third-party footprint loses to a competitor with fifty honest reviews, because the model trusts corroboration it did not get from you.

B2B software

Comparison content decides it. The answer to which tool suits a given team is usually assembled from roundups, alternatives pages and Reddit, so the brands that appear in other people's comparisons win the shortlist before a buyer ever visits a site.

Ecommerce and retail

Structured product data, ratings and availability do the work. Models read specs and reviews rather than brand copy, so a catalogue with no review markup is close to invisible when someone asks for the best option under a budget.

Regulated fields

Finance, legal and healthcare answers stick to a narrow set of sources the model considers safe. Breaking in takes genuine authority signals and third-party corroboration, and the default outcome is silence rather than a bad mention.

Diagnosis

How to tell whether this is your problem

The tell is simple. Ask an assistant the question your best customer would ask on the way to buying, in the words they would use, and see whether your name appears in the sentence. Not in the links underneath. In the sentence.

Do it three or four times, because the answer moves between runs. If your name never lands, you are not being penalised for anything. You are simply not in the sources the engine reached for, which is a different problem with a different fix.

The thing that catches people out is that traffic looks fine while this happens. A citation with no click leaves no trace in analytics, and a mention with no link leaves none at all, so the channel can be moving buyers away from you without a single number on your dashboard changing.

Questions

Common questions

Does AI visibility really work differently by industry?

Yes, mostly because the buyer question is shaped differently. A local search resolves to a handful of nearby names with reviews attached, while a software question resolves to a comparison of features. The engines lean on completely different sources to answer each one, so the work that earns a citation is different too.

My site ranks well on Google. Does that carry over?

Partly, and less than people expect. Being crawlable and trusted helps you get retrieved, but the engine still chooses what to quote. Plenty of pages that rank first are never named in the generated answer, because a competitor answered the question more directly in its opening lines.

What if my industry is not listed here yet?

The free check does not depend on these pages. It reads your site, works out your category on its own and generates the buyer questions from there, so it works for any industry. These pages simply go deeper on the patterns we see repeatedly in that field.

How long does it take to move the number?

Weeks rather than days, and it depends where the gap is. A robots.txt fix can change things by the next crawl. Earning a place in the third-party sources a model already trusts is slower, because someone else has to publish it. Anyone promising a fast guaranteed result is describing something they do not control.
