Most people run these in the wrong order and conclude the tools are broken. The sequence that actually gets somewhere is short and boring.
First, check access. Confirm the AI crawlers are allowed. A blocked bot explains every other bad number on this list, and no amount of content work fixes it.
Then check whether the answer even exists. Plenty of commercial searches never trigger an AI Overview. If yours does not, the fight is inside ChatGPT and Perplexity instead, and knowing that early saves you a quarter of wasted effort.
Then make one page quotable and measure it. Grade a page, apply the fixes, and re-run the visibility check a couple of weeks later. One page done properly teaches you more than twenty pages changed at once, because you can actually attribute the movement.
The one thing no free tool can do is tell you whether a change worked, because a single check cannot separate a real improvement from normal run to run variation. That needs repeated sampling over time, which is the paid product and the honest reason it exists. The methodology page explains exactly how that sampling works.
